What you’ll do during the Poggio Landi Biodiversity Wine Tour
On this Montalcino tour you’ll enjoy all the excitement that this region has to offer.
You’ll discover one of lesser known areas of the varied Montalcino region, where our Poggio Landi winery stands on a panoramic hilltop.
Encompassing a centuries-old villa called Podere Belvedere, Poggio Landi is an idyllic spot in the heart of the Val d’Orcia nature reserve, where you can enjoy views over the most beautiful scenery in Tuscany while tasting a glass of our exclusive wine. From the spacious panoramic terrace you can see Renaissance Pienza on one side and the medieval town of Montalcino on the other, both world-famous for their long history and gastronomic traditions.
Picture Poggio Landi on a glorious sunny day. Time feels like it has stood still with magic all around.
Our staff will welcome you to the terrace next to the wine shop before beginning your Montalcino wine tour visiting our vineyards, which grow healthily on the gentle slopes of these hills, embraced by a perfect microclimate. This varied land offers the ultimate growing conditions for Sangiovese, which gives the best of itself due to the varied soil and special microclimate. The variety that lines the myriad slopes around Montalcino meets its match at Poggio Landi, where the combination of different altitudes, aspects and soil composition yields wines of great character and elegance, which are capable of communicating intense emotions that prove hard to forget. This happy marriage is expertly blended with a company philosophy that is based on respect for the vines, terrain and the natural surroundings: sustainability is essential in producing fine wines.
The cellar tour enables you to see the attention we give to our grapes through fermentation that proudly follows the same natural approach applied in the vineyard. The grapes are fermented using solely native yeast to leave their natural flavours intact and to enhance the nuances of this rich terroir. You’ll visit the barrel cellar, where the large, untoasted French Allier oak barrels host our wines for a long period of ageing without changing the original flavours and only exalting the characteristics of the fruit.
Climbing up the modern spiral staircase from the cellar, the tour ends in our scenic wine shop and a tasting of Poggio Landi wines: firstly, Rosso di Montalcino DOC, followed by Brunello di Montalcino DOCG and our prestigious Brunello di Montalcino DOCG Riserva. Discover the fragrance of the young Rosso, the intensity and elegant of Brunello, and the class and complexity of Brunello.
This Montalcino tour also gives you the chance to taste one of the best pairings for this fine wine. This Montalcino wine tasting is served with local cheeses such as Pecorino from nearby Pienza, which is an explosion of flavours and pleasure for even the most demanding palates when paired with our Brunello. One thing’s for sure: this wine tour in Tuscany won’t leave you feeling disappointed!
