Cellars - Montalcino Wine Tours

Montalcino is a hilltop town that stands for history, tradition and passion. A UNESCO World Heritage site since 2004, the region is famous worldwide for its Brunello, a renowned appellation and the first wine in Italy to receive Denominazione d’Origine Controllata e Garantita (DOCG) quality status.

The earliest evidence of grape growing dates to Etruscan times, but it was in the 19th century that the name Brunellino, describing the typical garnet colour, was first used for the wine that we now know as Brunello. Its prestige derives from a happy marriage of elements: the fact that the wine is produced in a restricted but varied area, with diverse microclimates and myriad subzones. Montalcino is located in the Val d’Orcia nature reserve, skirting the sea to the south and the Apennines to the north. The soils are perfect place to grow Sangiovese and produce enduring wines of outstanding complexity.

Two of our estates are nestled in this winemaking paradise: Poggio Landi and Podere Brizio, where we offer some of the best wine tours in Montalcino. Poggio Landi is located to the northeast of Montalcino, near Torrenieri, comprising 74 hectares under vine across various subzones north, east and south of Montalcino. Podere Brizio consists in about 11 hectares southwest of Montalcino, a few kilometres from the sea. These two very different wineries share the same natural and sustainable approach, with respect for the land and its produce. Quality is the common denomination for both wineries, while their differences lies in the varied terroirs that nourish the vines. Experience this biodiversity by booking one of our Montalcino wine tours.
